Civility creates a safe environment in which the most impassioned debates can occur, leading to deeper understanding and tolerance even when disagreement lingers. Civility builds relationships, and relationships can lead us to solutions that we could never reach in isolation.
We pledge not only to protect personal information but to do our best to ensure that all children and families in our district are treated with respect, dignity and given every opportunity to achieve.
Here in the Sunnyvale School District, we are helping students to establish a growth mindset — the belief that they can succeed, even increase their intelligence and expand their talents, through hard work and perseverance.

Research tells us that the strategic use of technology in the classroom adds enormous value to the learning process. But to realize its benefits, it is imperative that we thoughtfully and intentionally integrate it into instructional plans designed to support specific learning objectives.
By ensuring we have the resources we need to help our students thrive, our partners and neighbors empower our children to traverse that opportunity gap that plagues so many communities.
Our job as educators is to connect with our children — to identify the best way to draw out the unique potential that lies within each so they experience learning in a way that excites them and inspires them to seek education throughout their lives.
On Dec. 11, President Obama signed new legislation replacing No Child Left Behind (NCLB) with Every Student Succeeds. Replacing this 13-year-old legislation is a tremendous relief and great improvement for public education.

In reflecting on the 2014-2015 school year I must say that it has been a very good year and there has been much accomplished in support and service to the students of Sunnyvale.
