  • Cumberland community expands Zero Waste program

    In the City of Sunnyvale, the goal is to reduce the volume of waste and conserving/recovering all resources. With that goal in mind, and in partnership with our PTA, the City of Sunnyvale, Cumberland staff members, and student helpers, we have been able to successfully teach about this topic and implement indoor and outdoor recycling of plastic containers/paper and the collection of food waste.

    Whether they are operating their own soap business at Sunnyvale Middle School, maintaining the garden at Columbia Middle, or making their infamous K9 Crunchies dog biscuits at the Fremont Union High School District Office, Sunnyvale students with disabilities are building the vocational and social skills they need to be successful when they enter the workforce.

  • Proactive testing finds SSD drinking water lead free

    Sunnyvale School District’s schools joined 1,200 other schools statewide in voluntarily testing the quality of its water as lead-contaminated water receives increasing national attention as a public health concern. All results for the District to date have shown no traces of lead in the water.
