Safe Routes to School

  • Join Us for Walking Wednesdays!

Fairwood Explorer Elementary is joining several other Sunnyvale schools in Walking Wednesdays! This is part of a larger national initiative called Safe Routes to School. Walking to school gives children, parents, school teachers, and community leaders an opportunity to celebrate the many benefits of walking. Walking to school creates communities that are safe places to walk, gives kids exercise, and develops healthy habits which motivates them to stay focused at school. Volunteers will be cheering on and rewarding students with prizes who walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, etc. to school. Bishop’s Walking Wednesdays are planned for the second Wednesday of each month. We hope you will join us by walking, skating, or rolling to school!

Walking School Bus: For those of you who live too far to ride or bike to school, you are encouraged to join the Walking School Bus. We’ll meet in the parking lot at the corner of Lawrence Expressway and Lakehaven, near the pedestrian overcrossing, and walk to school together. Please be there by 7:35 as the “bus” leaves promptly at 7:40!

Thank you for helping us keep the kids safe and motivated!
