    Message from Principal

    Dear CMS Families,

As we kick off the month of May, we want to remind you that our students will begin CAASPP testing in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics this week. These important assessments provide a snapshot of each student’s academic progress and help us ensure they are on track with grade-level expectations.

To support a smooth and focused testing experience, CMS will follow a special bell schedule on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, which will include a two-hour testing block each morning. Students will then follow a modified schedule for the rest of the day.
Please note: Our regular Wednesday schedule will remain unchanged.

Please help your student come prepared by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time. A calm, rested start to the day makes a big difference!

    Teacher Appreciation Week Begins Monday!
As we begin the week, we also want to take a moment to express our deep gratitude for our amazing CMS teachers. Their dedication, care, and commitment to our students make all the difference. Please join us in celebrating them throughout the week!

Thank you for your continued support in helping every student do their best.

    Sincerely,

    Daniel Poo

    PTSA Updates

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up starting May 5th.   Please drop off anything that you can donate to the school starting Friday afternoon May 2nd through Friday May 9th morning.  The following are some suggestions: fruits (these go fast), trail mix, oatmeal, cereal, Keurig pods for coffee, decaf coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, bottles, soda, candy and chips.    There are about 100 teachers and staff so things can move out quickly.   Anything is welcome and appreciated.

UPDATE:  Due to the Back to School Night the PTSA General Association Meeting is on May 28th 6:15 at the LRC (library) at school.

The last Parent Teacher Student Association meeting for the school year will be on May 21st.   Please join us to hear the latest updates and give feedback.   We will also be saying thank you to our current outgoing board members including President Elsa Nunez, Vice President Dyadyra Moya Rosales and Treasurer Suzanne O’Brien for their amazing leadership and endless hours of volunteering.    You will also get to meet our new incoming Board for the next school year.

    8th Grade Cultural Sashes

As we look forward to celebrating your student’s promotion, we want to share a few important guidelines to ensure the ceremony remains respectful and inclusive of all cultures and traditions.

    Cultural Sashes:
Students are welcome to wear a cultural sash to represent their heritage and identity. To ensure appropriateness and alignment with school expectations, all cultural sashes must be pre-approved by school administration no later than Friday, June 6th. If your student plans to wear a sash, please email a photo or description to either Mr. Bradley, Dr. Tarumoto or Mr. Poo.

    Leis and Accessories:
Please note that candy leis, money leis, and other celebratory accessories are not allowed during the promotion ceremony. If you have questions about a certain item, please reach out to the school administration.

Thank you for helping us maintain a meaningful and dignified celebration for all our 8th graders. We appreciate your support and cooperation.

    EOY Fieldtrip Eligibitliy

Here's a revised version with improved clarity and grammar:

Subject: Important Information Regarding End-of-Year Field Trip Eligibility

The third trimester began on Monday, March 10th. This is a timely reminder for students and families regarding the eligibility requirements for all end-of-year field trips.

To participate in their grade level's end-of-year field trip/activity, students must meet the following criteria:

    • No Suspensions: Students must not receive any suspensions (classroom, in-school, or out-of-school) during the third trimester.
    • Tardiness Limit: Students must have fewer than 60 tardies.
    • Unexcused Absence Limit: Students must have fewer than 126 unexcused period absences. Please note that parent-excused absences are included in this count.
    • Behavioral Expectations: School administration (Mr. Poo, Mr. Bradley, and Dr. Tarumoto) reserves the right to remove a student from the field trip if they exhibit unsafe behaviors.

    For attendance-related questions, please contact:

    • Dr. Vicky Tarumoto, Assistant Principal: [email address removed] or (408) 522-8247, extension 2002
