Message from Principal
Dear CMS Families,
As we enter the final two weeks of school, thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the year. It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the finish line of the 2024–2025 school year!
This week, our 6th and 7th-grade students will begin selecting their electives for the upcoming school year. Each student will be asked to rank their top three elective choices. While this process will take place during class, we encourage families to review the options together at home.
We’ve linked the Elective Presentation so you can support your student in making informed decisions. Students will be choosing from 18 different elective options, including music, visual and performing arts, world languages, leadership, and college and career readiness courses. Please note that some electives have prerequisites or are based on teacher recommendation. For example, Mr. Mendoza has already spoken with students about which band class (Symphonic Band – Advanced or Concert Band – Beginner) they should select based on their performance this year. Students will submit their elective requests during AST this week.
Looking ahead to next week, we have a full schedule of celebrations and events:
-
Monday, June 9 – 7th & 8th Grade End-of-Year Field Trips
-
Tuesday, June 10 – Trimester Awards & 8th Grade Awards Night
-
Thursday, June 12 – 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony
We’re excited to celebrate our students’ accomplishments as we close out the year!
Sincerely,
Principal Poo
8th Grade Gowns
Promotion gowns were delivered to students on Friday, May 30.
If you were not able to purchase a gown, don’t worry—your student has been provided with a loaner gown, which must be returned immediately after the ceremony in order to receive their diploma.
If your student received a loaner, please be sure to take any photos before or during the ceremony, as the gown will need to be turned in right after promotion concludes.
Thank you for your support as we prepare to celebrate our promoting 8th graders!
8th Grade Cultural Sashes
As we look forward to celebrating your student’s promotion, we want to share a few important guidelines to ensure the ceremony remains respectful and inclusive of all cultures and traditions.
Cultural Sashes:
Students are welcome to wear a cultural sash to represent their heritage and identity. To ensure appropriateness and alignment with school expectations, all cultural sashes must be pre-approved by school administration no later than Friday, June 6th. If your student plans to wear a sash, please email a photo or description to either Mr. Bradley, Dr. Tarumoto or Mr. Poo.Leis and Accessories:
Please note that candy leis, money leis, and other celebratory accessories are not allowed during the promotion ceremony. If you have questions about a certain item, please reach out to the school administration.Thank you for helping us maintain a meaningful and dignified celebration for all our 8th graders. We appreciate your support and cooperation.
Last Day of School: Minimum Day
Please note that CMS will be on a minimum-day schedule for the last day of school on Thursday, June 12th, 2025. Please ensure that your student is picked up earlier that day. Students who ride the bus will be taken back to their designated drop-off spots.
If you have an 8th-grade student, please refer to the schedule below:
