Counseling

  • Another way we meet the social-emotional needs of our students is to provide school-based counseling.

Students who participate in counseling services meet with a Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC) counseling intern or a district intern one or two times per week for short-term counseling. The purpose of counseling is to ensure that the students have the right tools and skills to be successful in school. If a student's needs are more than school-based concerns, we refer them out to one of our community partners for continuous outside counseling.

Students can also benefit by participating in the following small groups: Social Skills, Art Therapy, Girls' Circle, Anger Management, and many other groups depending on their specific needs.

Students can also benefit from mediation with peers when conflicts arise to ensure they have the appropriate skills to handle issues with one another and learn about healthy ways to manage conflict.

If you feel your child could benefit from any of these services, please discuss this possibility with your child’s classroom teacher.
