Mr. Poo is entering his 14th year with the Sunnyvale School District, and this will be his fifth year as the proud principal of Columbia Middle School. Prior to taking on the role of principal, Mr. Poo served as one of CMS's assistant principals for nine years. Mr. Poo has really enjoyed his time at CMS as he loves to work with students, teachers, staff, parents and the surrounding community. Mr. Poo is a firm believer that a great school can transform a community if the school values the “funds of knowledge” that students bring with them. Students are held to high expectations, but more importantly, students also know they are cared about by the adults in the school.

Mr. Poo has been working in the field of education for twenty years, serving as an Interim Principal, Academic Dean, Dean of Students, and Counselor at two separate charter high school settings in East San Jose prior to arriving at Columbia Middle School. Mr. Poo is passionate about his work, as he believes education can empower students to gain control of their lives by providing them with opportunities that many of them did not even know existed.

When not at work, Mr. Poo likes to spend time with his wife and three daughters, play Magic the Gathering with students, and being an active member of his parish community.
