School Attendance Information

  • Absences

Please call the school at 408-522-8272 on the first day of your child's absence. Please make sure that you leave your child's first and last name, name of the teacher, date(s) of the absence, reason for the absence and your relationship to the student. Students are responsible for missed homework. Missed homework will be given to the student upon returning to school.

    Independent Study

It is in your child's best interest to plan vacations while school is not in session. In order to receive Independent Study credits, you need to come into the office to complete the Independent Study Contract. Contracts will be granted only when you contact the school office 5 school days in advance of absence due to travel. While this is no substitute for regular classroom instruction, it will help your child stay current with their class.

    Arrival Time

Playground supervision begins at 7:45 a.m. To ensure students' safety, we ask that you do not send your children to school before this time, as there is no proper supervision for them. The cafeteria is open at 7:30 a.m for any students that wishes to eat a school breakfast.

Students are to arrive in-line and on-time for the warning bell at 7:55 a.m.  Any student who arrives to their line after 8:00 a.m. will be marked tardy.

What is the impact of Tardiness?

    • The first few minutes of class are loaded with information.
    • Being tardy intrrupts the class.
    • It is embarrassing to arrive late to the class, especially for shy children.
    • Arriving late leaves the student disoriented.
    • Being late to class develops a habit of arriving late.
    • Students that arrive late to school have more difficulty in school.
    • Late students have a higher risk of dropping out of school.
    • A habitually late student may have lower self esteem and confidence because of academic difficulties.
    • There should be no more than three tardies in one school year.

      Messages for Students

We make every effort not to interrupt teachers during their teaching time. Please make every effort to give your child messages before school because it is very difficult to give children messages when parents call the office close to dismissal time. If students have special instructions about whether or not to ride the bus, it is critical that they know before they come to school. Relying on the office to give last minute instructions about whether or not to take the bus can jeopardize students' safety.

      Student Sign Out

Release of a child from school may only be made to a parent, legal guardian or someone listed as an emergency contact. Release to persons other than the above-mentioned may be made with written permission of parents or legal guardians. Anyone taking a child out of school during school hours must sign them out in the office.
