COVID-19 Information
-
What does Sunnyvale School District do to monitor COVID-19 cases in schools?
All students and staff monitor for symptoms daily, and Health Assistants at each school support students who are symptomatic in transitioning to home and testing for COVID-19. Positive cases are reported to district office nursing staff and monitored closely should they reach a threshold that requires further support.
What types of COVID tests are accepted when required to submit test results?
CDPH recommends that antigen tests be considered the primary option for detecting COVID-19 in schools, compared to PCR tests.
Will families be notified if there is a positive case in their child's classroom?
Protocols are in place, monitored by our District nursing staff, should we begin to see increases in COVID cases. If such an increase were to occur, school communities would receive communication about any changes in protocols with masking, testing, or symptom checking if needed.
Are students able to wear masks?
Yes! The Sunnyvale School District supports all students who choose to wear masks while at school. Masks are available for students on campus if needed.
What type of PPE will the schools have available?
For students or staff who need masks, we will have disposable surgical masks available. We follow what the CDC and Santa Clara County Public Health Department advise in terms of which masks to wear. Please see their guidance here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html#:~:text=%2D%20Wear%20masks%20with%20two,two%20years%20and%20older
